FACT SHEET
BACKGROUND: The first volume of this series was produced and published in the mid 1980s. The book was the product of volunteered efforts of members of the United States LST Association. Mel Barger (LST 555) wrote the text for the historical section and edited the entire publication. Along with Barger's historical text, were over one hundred LST "ship stories" and photographs authored by veterans who served on the ship. Last but not least, were several hundred individual Veteran Biographies including in most cases "then" and "now" photos of the veteran.
The book was hard cover - nine inch by twelve inch coffee-table format with a medallion replica of the LST Association embossed on the front cover. Over 1000 books were printed and sold out.
Volumes 2 and 3 followed the HISTORIES, SHIP STORIES and VETERAN BIOGRAPHIES format of the first book. All copies sold out of their original printing.
